Communication in harmony with Its environment

The small municipality of Ville-d’Avray in the Hauts-de-Seine region has heritage-rich ponds on its territory. A major construction project is underway there. Celize’s wooden totem box emerged as the ideal communication tool to present the ongoing developments.

A strong educational challenge

Feeding the fountains, cascades, and water jets of the Château de Saint-Cloud during the reign of Louis XIV, the Ville-d’Avray ponds are managed by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux. This privileged setting also inspired the famous painter Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot. Currently, this site is undergoing significant renovation that needed to be explained to the residents and visitors who are very attached to this environment.

The large-format display materials commissioned by Ville-d’Avray and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux aim to inform about the ongoing works. With the panels requiring a substantial amount of text, Celize proposed the creation of 4 wooden totem boxes, with a height perfectly suited for pedestrian reading. They also feature double-sided display, encouraging people to walk around to read the information. The project is detailed: objectives, ongoing works, schedule, preservation of the landscape and wildlife. When viewed in perspective, the photographs seem to blend seamlessly with the existing surroundings.

Successful landscape integration

For the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, the choice of the display structure must align with the location and the project. The wooden totem box solution appeared to be in complete harmony with the environment, notably due to the use of a natural material that blends seamlessly into the landscape. It thus softens the presence of communication supports at the edge of the pond. Simplicity was desired to enhance the readability of the content. In other cases, totems can, of course, be customized (shape, design, color) to align with the institution’s graphic codes.

The specific furniture chosen by Ville-d’Avray and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux also allows visitors to sit during their walk. While capturing the public’s attention, this dual function justifies its use in places inviting observation, daydreaming, and relaxation.
