Artistic display totems for a cultural metro station

Line 2 of the Lille Roubaix Tourcoing metro boasts a station like no other in the city center. It is adorned with a gigantic fresco by artist Mahjoub Ben Bella (1946-2020). Through the choice of totems designed by Celize, ilévia, the transport company for the Lille metropolitan area, and the communication agency Amazing Médias wished to pay tribute to this Algerian painter who spent most of his career in Tourcoing.

Reflecting a dynamic spirit

With its 2,600 employees, ilévia is the mobility partner of the Lille metropolitan area and actively participates in its development. It serves nearly 730,000 passengers on its network through 3,600 stops. Committed to providing high-quality service, ilévia goes further by reflecting the cultural dynamism of the Hauts-de-France region.

In this context, the transport company wanted to honor the work of painter Mahjoub Ben Bella, particularly the fresco decorating the Colbert station in Tourcoing. The Celize team therefore mobilized to propose display solutions that align with the design and progressive values of ilévia.

Communication supports in harmony with the artwork and the location

Strategically placed (two near the fresco and one facing the passengers), the totems serve both explanatory and aesthetic functions. By using the station’s color scheme and elements of the fresco on the printed panels, they complete the whole rather than adding to it. The light wooden casing enhances this impression by blending into the environment.

In contrast, the choice of modular totems display in different dimensions (120 and 160) allows the one displaying just the image to have a more striking presence.

An exhibition meeting very specific standards

Beyond the cultural objectives of the project, it was essential to consider the specifics of the location. Communicating within a metro station involves particular technical requirements for furniture. Safety, in particular, is a strong commitment of ilévia. Therefore, Celize had to provide equipment that strictly adhered to the M1 fire safety standard.

Moreover, to minimize disruption to the station’s operations and limit any potential traffic inconvenience, the installation of the display supports was carried out during off-peak hours.

Whatever your project, the Celize team will adapt their expertise to your needs and offer you a bespoke solution.
